Overview of the Child Support Program

In the state of Texas, the Office of the Attorney General has a Child Support Program where it enforces child support services as mandated by the court. The office, through its Child Support Division, provides a means for a parent to provide or ask for support for their children. The division also sees to it that parents know and understand their responsibilities for the child and comply with any court mandated order of providing the agreed financial support to the child. It also evaluates the capacity of the parent in giving financial support and assists the parent in ways to obtain finances so as not to break the mandated court order.

A parent can access the site as a custodial or noncustodial parent. A custodial parent is the one who has primary responsibility for the child, he or she is the one who has custody or guardianship of the child, who cares for and has control of the child. A noncustodial parent is the one who gives child support in a form of financial assistance.

Each parent can access the website through a login ID and pin. A custodial parent requires the Customer Identification Number (CIN) and for the PIN, the last four digits of the parents social security number. The noncustodial parent can access through a Member ID and the entire social security number. If the CIN or Member ID is forgotten, the parent may call the  Texas Attorney General Child Support Interactive customer service and ask for assistance.

After login, the custodial parent can access information about the court case status or status of the payments, update changes in address, request for verification of income and history of payments made.

A noncustodial parent can check on his or her payment history, payment status or case status. For convenience purposes, the  Texas Attorney General Child Support Interactive site has a link where the noncustodial parent can make payments through the Pay Child Support Online site.

The Texas Attorney General Child Support Interactive also has the Frequently Asked Questions link where a parent can find information about where to send payment (if not done online), the information needed in the check or money order, what to do if payment is made directly to the custodial parent, what to do if there are changes in the parent's name or address, and corresponding fees.
